Global Food Programme improves operations across West Africa
From its administrative headquarters in Accra, the programme supports food distribution and nutrition monitoring across West Africa. In 2026 the programme reached 23% more children than the year before, through more effective partnerships with local resources in 16 countries and improved data collection processes.
Stronger local partnerships
Working with local suppliers, transporters and community organizations shortened delivery routes and reduced costs. Sixteen country programmes now source a majority of staple goods regionally, keeping value in local economies while improving delivery times during the rainy season.
Better data, better decisions
Field teams modernized data collection with mobile tools, giving programme coordinators a near real-time picture of distribution coverage and nutrition indicators. Monitoring visits that once took weeks to compile are now available within days.
What comes next
The programme will extend community kitchen coverage to additional school districts and deepen nutrition monitoring for children under five, with the goal of reaching every enrolled community by the end of 2027.
